Spread Joy

Spread Joy
A message that bubbled up from the ground today

12.15.2022

My Wednesday morning walks are a time to share and get a little workout with Ron.  If the day has to shiftin any given week, we are fluid and accommodate others who may need our attention on any given Wednesday.  Surprisingly, we are able to keep this weekly ritual without too much disruption.

What happens along the way is a chance to feel the energy of the ocean - the spot where land meets water reminds me of how insignificant we are.  And when the weather is sunny or overcast, the sound of the waves is always soothing to encounter.  Our conversations range between silence and international affairs, catching up with personal reflections or news, processing other activities that have left an impression that wants more attention.  But it's not the conversation so much as it is the time and space we share.  I am realizing that this walking routine is actually a manifestation of a bit of joy in life.

How many things does one do (as an adult in the world) that doesn't involve any purpose other than to be present, to allow spaciousness for unplanned experiences, and to rest while in motion?  The walk is exactly this!

This week, as we were walking, an imperative came through, "SPREAD JOY!"  It was all capital letters and with an exclamation point.  It wasn't lower case, it wasn't  black and white, it wasn't a simple two words - no.  It was a colorful, clear, and urgent call to action.  I received it as a reminder:  part of our essence is to find ways to spread more than our talents, to be responsible for our families and selves, to remain accountable to the values we hold - but also to make sure we create moments that are joyful, even if ever so fleeting.

I thank the one who made this message, and the One who made sure that my eye would fall on it, and the ones who I will never know but who will be struck by the beautiful intention in this creation.
