Resistance

Resistance
Artwork by Tu-2

The morning started to clear after a heavy night rain. The temperature is 54 degrees fahrenheit. Today is Sunday.

The image didn't inspire anything last week. It was too jarring, too confusing, not the colors that called for words to come forth. Today, it's different.

That's the thing - resistance transforms.

Resisting the thing in one moment; then opening to the possibility the next. We all have had the experience of an encounter with something we don't like one moment, and later - it could be moments, days, years later - the same thing is okay. Maybe it even becomes something you like. This is what happened here.

The creative touches something different at a different moment and leads to another creativity, unexpectedly. Then, that will create yet another creative move or idea, and so on. There is something about today, that makes the colors and movement here intriguing. Not sure what that is but it is definitely there.

And it maybe the mesmerizing flow of letters and numbers that can hardly be read and make no sense whatsoever. That is much of life - going in circles, not really making much sense after a while. We realize that the only thing that we really need to embrace - which we spend most of our lives denying or resisting - is that we have limited time to do what matters.

What matters is expressing as much love as we can into the world and people around us, given our individual limitations.

One friend said to me that working toward "humanity" and the notion that people can recognize one another is work for "the naive." It is a waste of energy because human beings, unlike the animal world beings, will always find a way to weaponize any new discovery, will forever be concerned with themselves first and above all others no matter what they say, and are not worth wasting time trying to change. That's just "reality." We need to live in reality, not fantasy.

Hmmm... that sounds like resistance to me given the human beings in the world that spend their lives in service - whether it is in the sciences, in service to those who are vulnerable, in protecting the environment, in building the art of storytelling and cultural preservation, in creating beautiful works of art. And most importantly - in spending time finding a way to inspire and support one another to keep doing the work that defines humanity.

Admittedly, there is plenty of evidence in the world to suggest that the thoughts of this friend may be true. There are lots of examples of where things are going wrong. Lots of stories shared about lying cheating, manipulating conditions to achieve selfish ends. It's all true.

All of it is true. Not just the parts that give way to disappointment.

The capacity we have for harm is always in need of balance with capacity to heal. Resisting this notion might leave something precious behind - like this piece of creativity that was shared with sincerity as a token of inspiration.
