Anger

The day began with clear skies and the ocean is just as clear and blue.  The temperature sits 56 degrees fahrenheit.  Today is Tuesday.

The teaching that we seek to observe ourselves as we engage in seeking our best selves allows a person to realize there is always a watchful eye - the Self.  And yet, when one is at a place of being able to observe, there is by definition a separation within.  The observer and the observed.  If the goal is to become one with... this is a hurdle for all of us.

Anger is one of those opportunities to train ourselves, spiritually.  It is one of those traits we all carry somewhere inside.  Being Peace is a great aspiration, and one that very a fortunate few can realize in this lifetime.  The fact that we can go through life and cultivate our being to be less wasteful of our life energy is a gift. There are just so many ways we are given the chance to refine, refine, refine.

The anger at self, at others, at conditions we encounter in the world - arises and we find ourselves at times unable to contain that energy.  A great spiritual training opportunity presents itself.  The anger comes in words, actions, and internal tensions that make us feel unwell, unstable.  And as we progress in training ourselves, the interval between the observer and the observed (Being Anger) gets smaller and smaller.  This is a lesson that comes from teachers across all space and time.  It explains why there is a persistent sense of internal separation in simply being.

How about using anger as a great teacher?

Would it be okay to allow ourselves the ability to still be a good person in the world, and express anger – and then beyond that - learn from the conditions that lead to bringing this aspect of who we are into the open. Sometimes one can do something about the situation and other times, one cannot - it's beyond our personal control and this can extend the state of disruption, if the spiritual training is superficial.

As one trains in closing the gap between being and observing, there is a chance of deepening one's ability to engage in life in a way that allows for truly living fully.

There is, of course, the potential for violence - always.  This state is one in which there is no limitation on where the energy of anger can lead.  Here, there is no chance to turn back, once physical damage is done.  Reflection, remorse, recovery might be possible on a very superficial level, but deep knowing that the beast of anger is a part of you becomes undeniable, and possibly untrainable if violence repeats.  Some of us are untrainable.

This is our reality as human beings - we know, but we don't know.  We deny what is a natural part of our being, and lose the chance to train.  Hopefully, this is not a common problem among us.
