Wet and Wild
By the time the body moved into "wake" time, the day had long started. Though the energy was still, the wetness was a reminder of how that the elixir of all life on this planet comes from the heavens. Mostly, the temperatures have remained in the 40's, fahrenheit - and storms have been bringing both the softness of rain and the hardness of hail - they call it "graupel". It's Saturday, and the greyness of the morning is beautiful.
The tendency to want things to be different is a bad habit. That habit is in wanting things to be different than they are. That wanting is a source of unnecessary disturbance. It seems to be why a lot of people struggle - there's a tendency that too often creates dissatisfaction with what is. It's blessing to be among the ones who are fine with whatever the conditions may be - both internal and external. Most human beings aren't built that way. It might be the pursuit of change (rather than just letting it come) that creates all the chaos. Then, there is that which is simply true.
Watching the shift in weather and climate has created a chance to appreciate something about the oneness of all living things on this planet. This is a truth - we are all in it together. While there are things in life that require full attention in order to maintain individual stability, the weather is something that shows us context. The context is in the conditions in which all life takes place. Sometimes, the context is disturbed by the touch of human interests - as in conflicts created between nations. But when it comes to the heavens, we are all sharing an aspect of existence that is singular. And the interconnectedness has been clearly illustrated.
This year's weather has been wet and wild in the part of the planet called California. Much needed rain has helped alleviate the tension around the drought. The added benefit is in the beauty of the snow that has fallen in the mountains that surround the basin - breathtaking views are to be had here in the southland. Simply said, it is beauty.
Then of course, there is the fact that the beauty has created danger for those who find themselves trapped in their mountain residences and retreats. The severity of what the rains and snow brought, has also brought death to the peaceful places where nature's embrace has become a chokehold. It is all connected.
The conditions where the severity of weather has hit, has created a need for using tools of transportation and technology to bring vital information in and out of the areas that cannot be accessed by conventional means. Food has to be dropped in; medical supplies and even feed for grazing animals has to be transported - and in today's world, this can be done.
The conditions have opened up behavior among people that is newsworthy (apparently) bringing stories of how neighbors and strangers are actually helping one another and attending to their common need to survive. A blessing and a curse, in real time.
The ride has been wet and wild this first quarter of the year. The rabbit has definitely been jumping around. Wondering what the next quarter will bring.
