Prayer

An open and quiet sky, a warming that will not be oppressive today at the sea.  The temperature sits at 66 degrees, fahrenheit and today is Friday.

Nothing much to say beyond what has already been said - both personally and in the world.  The news seems to carry the same stories of disaster, both natural and made by humans.  The cycle doesn't end, it just takes a few turns that replace the people and places.  Sad to say, but seems true.

If there is inspiration to be found, it is in the feeling of the morning air, the way people make and care for their relations to one another, and in how the search for truly being in service manifests.  While life demands that we find a way to make a living, it is also true that life pushes toward realizations that will not come just from taking care of self.

The note came earlier to please pray for a young life that will be facing death because of a medical condition requiring an operation.  The procedure can be done because we have the expertise and skill for attempting it; but the outcome as to whether survival and improvement will result is unknown.  It is a risky step.  

And aside from the skill of the surgeon, there is the strong medicine that can come from prayer and blessings to be shared.  This is what people do when faced with the most significant turns in life - that is, we turn to prayer and powers beyond what the human form can produce by will, by practice, by persistence.  Those aspects of our being are vital in many ways and in many situations, but in the end, we pray.

What might this mean in the paradigm of seeking change in the material world that we share?  Not much from the perspective of insisting that there be evidence that efforts produce something different than what exists now, usually to disappoint again.  Prayer, silence, bestowing blessings - are not accessible through the five senses.  So perhaps that is the reason why there is a sixth sense of consciousness that can receive and process and transmit that which cannot be seen, heard, touched.

In the situation of the child facing life/death - the fact of bringing collective awareness to the moment has effect.  And that effect can be felt through prayers and blessing sent to those who have loved and nurtured that young life.  And holding in prayer, the ones who must wait and do nothing more because there is nothing more for them to do in this time – all is medicine.  

Is this what is meant by knowing the infinite quality. in the strong medicine of spirit and prayer?
