Old Spirits
The air is clear, the fullness of the moon showed up in the early morning and is still there. The temperature is 56 degrees fahrenheit. Today is Saturday.
The week has been more than full and the movement of people around different parts of the region is still not in synch. IN one spot the movement is slow and easy, and in another the rush of schedules can be felt in the rhythm of the activities.
Now and then, an image crosses and this one was a reminder of an old spirit with a young heart. She was so intuitive as a being who would sit with us in stillness and silence and move with us as we gently walked as if our feet were "kissing the ground" as we remained in our silent meditation. For 45 minutes, she would just be - as all of the humans were being - together.
The sharing of her gentleness (and definite cuteness) added to the peace that the humans were generating - if even for a few minutes out of the rest of the cycle in a day into night. And when the time came for a little friskiness, it was there. The understanding was clear, "Now it's time to play."
For those who are fortunate to come across old spirits, the gift they have to offer is unmistakeable. For the moment of that encounter, a feeling of sweetness and love can be experienced and it is a feeling not like anything another human being can offer. This is the beauty of encounters and sharing with sentient beings that are not human, but definitely understand the connection.
Hearing of the terminal condition that found its way into the physical being of this soul, was startling. The care that was given ensured that the passage would not be one of suffering, but of even more love to be poured into the path. It came from those who could actually be with her physically, and from those who could only be with her in spirit. After all, this is where we all eventually may meet one day. The soul is sent back home. The body comes to rest.
Just thinking of this spirit made a feeling of warmth enter on this chilly day. One of those encounters that will not be forgotten, and whose remembrance will always bring a feeling of peace. That's what Old Spirits and young hearts can do for us.
