Horizons

Horizons

The day is grey as sun comes up and the air stays chilly. The temperature sits at 49 degrees fahrenheit. Today is Sunday.

While there may be some exciting things happening right now, there are even more exciting things that await farther out on th horizon. Now and then, fear comes into play because we really don't know what that horizon might bring. It helps to sit and just see as far as the eye will take you, preferably where there is an unobstructed view. Then, let your being take you beyond that horizon. There certainly is something that awaits.

In the last few weeks, there have been many chances to move into the new year cycle with a combination of routine activities and new opportunities to learn, to reconsider, and to make plans. The planning is always something that asks us to combine what can be predicted, but leave room for the unexpected. The idea of expect, but don't expect works well with horizons.

For the year ahead, there are plans for teaching, travel, and transitions of all kinds. The teaching will remain a part of the weaving of interests, invitations, and intuition. These three work well together for the purpose of sharing what resources are available - both material and non-material. Then, there are travel plans. The year begain with cancelling a plan that would have been an excursion into new territory with friends; but that was put on hold because of certain transitions in life. Those transitions have to do with aging and the fact of ultimate letting go. So being close to home base was a decision that was made, without much reservation. Conditions sometimes make it necessary to reconsider plans and opportunities. And there are no regrets.

For the moment, things feel quite right. The opening of a new cycle brings greetings from old (and new) friends, updates on what is happening in the lives of those we care about, and visits with people who are dear. In all, one can feel that we are launching into a new cycle. You can tell because there are so many activities, campaigns, and invitations to share how we can connect and reconnect in the coming year.

All of it is precious because all of it is an invitation to bring us back to why we are here in the first place: to learn how deep and abiding is our purpose for living. The way to take in the teaching depends entirely on what one can see in their existence. That existence is sometims strain and struggle; sometimes smooth with a few bumps along the way. We learn to keep going - facing that horizon that is always there. And we are invited to once again remember that no matter what, there is a choice to experience our lives with gratitude for the lessons that keep coming. Horizons: known and unknonw, an invitation to imagine, and an opportunity to see using more than the eyes.
